Podcast Summarymy music, my life , my love of sharing music. enjoy About IZZYBorn and raised in Northern California, Justin Isbell, better known as Izzy, always knew that music would play a prominent role in his future, and that future was not only solidified but also given a direction when he attended his first rave in the mid 90s. Izzy’s undeniable passion and talent for music led him to San Francisco, where he studied Music Engineering at Ex’pression College and worked for a music distribution company, all the while delving head first into the Bay Area’s club and underground dance scene. Although Izzy’s sound can primarily be classified as deep, dubby, heady house, he has an unparalleled ability to flawlessly combine all genres of house with seamless continuity. With the crowd at his fingertips, Izzy’s sets pack an otherwise empty dance floor—enabling Izzy to take the listener on a musical journey of his choosing, ranging from tranquil grooves to euphoric beats all while transcending the conventional boundaries of house. Izzy has had the opportunity to hone his skills on a turntable while playing alongside some of dance music’s elite, including Doc Martin, Mark Farina, DJ Heather, Garth, Jeno, Buck, Halo, John Howard, Lawnchair Generals, Tony, and countless others. In addition to learning from many of the innovators and legends of house music, Izzy stays on the cutting edge of his craft by working at Tweekin Records in San Francisco, a premier electronic dance music record store. Inspired by the Wicked crew, Izzy set out to emulate Wicked’s legendary full-moon beach parties, which he had heard about but never had the chance to experience for himself. Three times a year, when the moon is at its peak, you can find Izzy spinning hypnotic rhythms and pulsating beats in a cove on a hidden beach, surrounded by hundreds of loyal ravers, all the while keeping the crowd energized and hungry to dance. In addition to organizing the full-moon parties, Izzy continues to make his mark as a resident DJ every second Saturday at 4 Those Who Know, hosted by Club Oasis, a tropical retreat in the midst of downtown Oakland. In its second year, this intimate gathering known for its chill vibe, upbeat crowd, and innovative dance tracks has grown exponentially, often featuring local talents as well as international DJs. The uncompromising integrity of Izzy’s music remains untouched by the typical politics that plague the industry. He lives by the motto: “While they play politics, I’ll play records.”
